MEDIEVAL GOLD AND ROCK CRYSTAL RELIQUARY PENDANT
15th-16th century AD

A rectangular pendant comprising a gold plaque and inset crystal pane to the reverse, the plaque with two gold suspension loops; engraved with an earlier crucifixion scene with nimbate Corpus Christi below the hand of God, symbols of the Evangelists in the quadrants (winged man, eagle, winged ox, winged lion); cell to the reverse with acanthus-leaf detailing and beaded wire rim. 19 grams, 42mm (1 3/4").

From an important collection of finger rings and other jewellery; acquired late 1990s-2010. Accompanied by a positive X-Ray Fluorescence metal analysis certificate.
