Welcome to our fourth ancient art, antiquities and coin auction of the year. We are pleased to welcome you back to the Crystal Ballroom in London with the following exciting schedule:

The objects in this sale were inspected and vetted by a committee of more than twelve archaeologists, experts and specialists. The majority of the team met on 7th-8th October and included several professionals from other European countries, including a highly respected former head curator of a national museum. I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome Professor Neritan Ceka, a renowned archaeologist of Albania and the Western Balkans, to the cataloguing and consultancy team. His knowledge and experience is a great asset to the team.

The September sale was the first 'under my wing’, so to speak. It was an enormous success with 90% of lots sold to bidders from a total 43 countries spread across the entire globe. Our star lot was lot 374, the Corinthian Hoplite Helmet, which achieved £114,300 (inc Bp). Other highlights, to name just a few, included lot 24, the Egyptian Silver Finger Stalls, sold for £48,578; lot 69, the Roman Marble Head of Apollo, which achieved £57,150; lot 245, the Achaemenid Gold Bracelets, sold for £35,560; lot 375, the Battle-Speared Illyrian Helmet, which sold for £48,578; and lot 452, 'The Whixall Stone', the oldest piece of art ever discovered in Shropshire, a find of significant importance. We would like to extend our thanks to its new owner for allowing the Shropshire Museum to have the object on loan.

Our September catalogue is dedicated to the prominent Egyptologist, the late Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie. You will find the dedication as a second news item.

Lastly, I was proud to attend the opening of the new local museum in Harwich, a project almost entirely achieved through the hard work of local volunteers. It is well worth a visit the next time you are in town visiting us.
