TimeLine Auctions: November Auction News

I hope to see many of you for some festive cheer at our viewing and reception on Thursday 22nd November in the Crystal Ballroom at the Mayfair Hotel in London. The rostrum sale starts the following day in the same venue as usual. This sale brings together so many interesting and sought-after items that I feel sure there will be much excitement and competitive bidding for many of the extraordinary lots on offer.

For those of you not familiar with our system of appraisal and vetting to route out possible fakes or forgeries, which has evolved over the past eight years, a group of respected external consultants is appointed to meet at our head offices in Harwich before every sale in order to rigorously appraise the material to be offered. The core group of at least eight authoritative experts meets over a three-day period to assess and examine the lots, while for some the process can extend to as long as eight days. Their mission is to check dating, cataloguing details and, above all, to ensure that no possible fakes will be entered in the sale.

Our vetting team for this sale was bolstered by the introduction of two new specialists, so I would like to take the opportunity to welcome our newcomers to the vetting committee. The first, Richard Roy, brings his expertise to bear on objects from the ancient Americas, while the input of Amin Rezai will be valued within the Western Asiatic and Islamic fields. In addition, John Cherry, former Keeper of Medieval and Later Antiquities at the British Museum for 25 years, has scrutinised the medieval and post medieval material, and academic experts from across the globe have looked at specific groups of objects such as cylinder seals, and Roman, Medieval and cuneiform inscriptions.

It is with pride that all of the TimeLine team present to you this new offering of over 4,000 lots from the usual wide array of cultures worldwide. For those of you considering consigning, we offer unprecedented quality of production and value for money in marketing your material. Why not give us a call to see how best we can help you maximise the value of your treasured property?

Yours sincerely,
