The customary champagne reception will take place in the Crystal Ballroom at the May Fair Hotel, London, from 6pm to 9pm on Monday 25th February. The hotel is located in Stratton Street, Mayfair, London, W1J 8LT. Viewing will be available from noon.
Buying with confidence at a TimeLine sale is our priority, and we take extraordinary pains to ensure that the details we publish are accurate and complete. This is only possible through the efforts of our dedicated cataloguing and photographic teams and the appraisal process involving experts in a variety of fields. Vetting for the present sale was as intensive as usual and had to be conducted in two separate sessions of two days each, involving on each occasion eight or more external Vetting Committee members.
Our cataloguing team has been augmented by the recruitment of Henriette Willberg. Henriette joined us after recently graduating with a first class BA Hons Literae Humaniores (Classics) from Wadham College, University of Oxford. She has worked in the field of picture research at the Modern Art Museum at Fort Worth, Texas, and at a noted London publishing house, and as a historical researcher and adviser to Theater Krefeld Mönchengladbach, Germany. She has also been a volunteer in various capacities at a number of leading London and Oxford museums.
The work of the Vetting Committee is paramount in ensuring that details of culture, date and authenticity are subjected to the strictest scrutiny. We are also proud to welcome as consultants two new names which will be familiar to many of you in the fields of Roman military diplomas and carved gems, and of cuneiform inscriptions. Dr Ittai Gradel graduated in Classical Archaeology from Aarhus University, Denmark and has subsequently held various academic posts in Danish and British universities. He has written many peer-reviewed papers on archaeological matters discussing Roman religion and Latin epigraphy, and he has further expertise in the fields of mediaeval and later palaeography and engraved gems of the classical world. His monograph ‘Emperor Worship and Roman Religion’, was published by Oxford University Press in 2002 and is a classic text for students working in this field.
