Welcome to the September 2019 TimeLine Auctions London Rostrum Auction

Since our founding, TimeLine Auctions has grown to become one of the world’s leading auctioneers of ancient art. We are proud to continue a long and flourishing tradition of antiquities trade through our merger in 2016 with Gregory, Bottley & Lloyd, the world's second oldest-running gem and fossil dealership. The company was established in 1858 by James Reynolds Gregory (1832-1899) with premises in Frith Street, Soho, London.

Our May auction was another resounding success, marking a record high in sale values including lot 80, an exquisite Roman Marble Head of Antoninus Pius, sold for £73,750.00; lot 146, the Roman Gilt Silver Lidded Pyxis, sold for £25,000.00; and lot 539, perhaps the largest Anglo-Saxon Enamelled Hanging Bowl Mount Pair yet discovered, which sold for £40,000.00.

Our third London auction of 2019 continues this tradition of excellence with an impressive selection of almost 4,500 lots of ancient art, antiquities, objects of virtue and coins. Whether beginner or antiquities connoisseur, jewellery lover or Viking enthusiast, this catalogue has something to spark your individual interest. Particularly spectacular lots include: lot 449, a Roman Cavalry 'Mater Castrorum' Sports Mask of an Amazon Warrior, probably made by the same craftsman or workshop as the famous Crosby-Garrett example; lot 508, a Heavy Scandinavian Viking Gold Twisted Bracelet from the 10th-11th century; and lot 366, a Monumental Gandharan Gilded Head of Prince Siddhartha.

Viewing will commence on the 2nd September from noon in the Crystal Room of the May Fair Hotel, London. Our champagne reception will begin at 6pm with Bollinger and canapés, accompanied by a wonderful string trio, followed later by a short presentation by Dr Raffaele D’Amato on lot 449, the Roman Cavalry 'Mater Castrorum' Sports Mask of an Amazon Warrior. We look forward to welcoming friends, old and new at what will no doubt be an unforgettable evening.
